Mukhtar Sanders is a graphic designer and comes from a family of artists. His wife Soraya Syed is a calligrapher and his father Peter Sanders a photographer.
Starting out as an apprentice and assistant to the Egyptian calligrapher and artist Dr Ahmed Moustafa, he gained wide-ranging experience working for agencies and influential designers before co-founding Inspiral Design Ltd, an agency that combines contemporary British design, Islamic art, language and culture with high-quality digital and print expertise. His specialist knowledge of the Muslim world and expertise in typography and Arabic calligraphy sets him apart. Offering beautifully crafted print and digital design for clients all around the globe including highly regarded companies and institutions from the Muslim world such as the University of Dammam, Aramco, Oxford University Press, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Museum of Islamic Art Doha and 1001 Inventions. Sanders has also worked with high profile figures such as Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Sir Ben Kingsley and even on a book for the King of Morocco. More recently, Sanders with his wife Soraya have co-founded Nuqta, a user-generated mobile museum of Arabic calligraphy and typography. Projects in the pipeline, include Mahabba Wedding which is a digital wedding invitation service aimed at Muslims around the world.
