Fatima Muneer is a social entrepreneur who is changing the face of Oman by using her skills in media, politics and development to create concepts in the hopes of providing solutions to a diverse array of problems. As an international journalist working with the Omani government, Muneer is credited with having launched the Oman Observer’s, the English daily where she gets published, first ever social media platforms. Most notably, she has been recognised for making the Observer’s twitter account the most followed one amongst all English news media in the country.
Seeing that there was a yawning gap in the English radio scene in Oman when it came to shows that act as forums for discussions of local issues, Muneer came up with a concept that gave birth to #SocialOman – a weekly live radio show that she co-hosted on local radio station, Merge 104.8. Despite being one of the youngest journalists in Oman, Muneer has already scored interviews with the likes of Riz Khan, Dr. Mohammed Yunus, Kiran Bedi, Sami Yusuf and Tim Berners-Lee.
Muneer holds a Bachelor degree in international relations from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and a Masters in journalism from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. An award winning photographer and avid traveller, she has so far lived in Washington D.C., New York, Doha, Dubai and Rabat.
