Adam Shamash is an award-winning filmmaker whose work bridges the peoples, stories and cultures of the Middle East with those of the West. He believes that good films have the power to unite our world.
Adam has over 10 years of experience in documentary and fiction film, and has worked extensively throughout Africa and the Middle East- from Mauritania to Yemen, from Iran to Jerusalem. He has made campaign videos and commercials for numerous clients, including the Government of Canada, the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), Celebrate Mercy, and the Royal Hashemite Family of Jordan. He is presently developing his first feature documentary, My Father’s Paradise, in addition to a number of short fiction films.
In 2011 Adam was nominated for the Best Emerging Canadian Filmmaker award by HotDocs film festival (Toronto, Canada). His films have won numerous awards, including Best Film, Best Director and Audience Award. Adam holds a Master’s Degree in Filmmaking from Goldsmith’s University (London, UK) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Filmmaking from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema (Montreal, Canada). He is based between Canada, the UK and the Middle East.
